Everything You Need to Know

Find answers to the most common questions about planning your East African safari.

Booking

We recommend booking 6–12 months in advance, especially for peak season (July–October) and during the Great Migration period. Popular lodges fill up quickly. A 30% deposit secures your booking, with the balance due 60 days before departure.

Cancellations made more than 60 days before departure receive a full refund minus the deposit. Between 30–60 days: 50% refund. Under 30 days: no refund. We strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance that includes cancellation cover.

Absolutely — tailored itineraries are our speciality. Whether you want to add a beach extension in Zanzibar, combine multiple countries, or focus on a specific species or activity, our consultants will design the perfect safari around your interests, dates and budget.

General

The best time depends on your priorities. For the Great Migration river crossings, visit Kenya and Tanzania between July and October. For calving season, visit the southern Serengeti in January–March. The long dry season (June–October) generally offers the best overall wildlife viewing across the region.

Most nationalities can obtain an e-Visa online before arrival for both Kenya and Tanzania. Kenya also operates an eTA (Electronic Travel Authorisation) system. We recommend applying at least 2 weeks before travel and checking your country's specific requirements with our booking team.

The safari regions of Kenya and Tanzania are well-established, safe tourist destinations visited by hundreds of thousands of travellers each year. Our vehicles, lodges and routes are all carefully vetted. We monitor all government travel advisories and will always prioritise your safety.

Safari

Yellow fever vaccination is required if arriving from a yellow fever endemic country. We strongly recommend: Hepatitis A & B, Typhoid, Tetanus/Diphtheria, and Meningitis vaccinations. Malaria prophylaxis medication is also strongly advised. Consult your GP or travel clinic at least 6–8 weeks before departure.

Pack neutral-coloured clothing (khaki, olive, brown, beige) — avoid blue and black which attract tsetse flies. Lightweight, breathable fabrics are ideal for daytime, while a warm fleece or jacket is essential for early morning game drives. Comfortable walking shoes and a wide-brimmed hat are also important.
